‘Dopamine’ is the 3rd LP by Sons of Mu. However, it was in fact the 1st.

Written and recorded in their studio just before the country slipped into lockdown restrictions in March 2020, the LP is a sonic journey through different textures and themes of a country that drifts on the edges of reality. The LP’s title track “Dopamine” with the lines “Everyone’s collateral” echoing through the tight edgy post-punk vibes sets the perfect tone, but there are also subtle notes... “Burning Torch” and “Small World” set eerie landscapes where there is space, confusion and swirling reverbs. These only offer a brief escape form the energy, as there is no denying the power of songs like “Weaponised” and “Vision Controller” where the message is a massive sledgehammer to a psych soundtrack. You must give in…You have been weaponised!”.

The recording was going to be the band’s first release, but with the lockdown came what has affected all bands since March, the missing of the raw emotion and fusion of live music. This left a black hole in the band, whose live power was set to be unleashed on the world with a string of gigs and festival appearances that had been planned, what followed was a period of reflection and experimentation that led to the writing and recording in isolation of two LP’s; ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Stay Confused’ released during the lockdown, so by a weird quirk of fate. Their first LP became their Third and here it is in its entirety…” Give me Dopamine!”
