The 'Lockdown' album

March 2020: Sons of Mu having spent most of the past year recording were two mixes away from completing their debut LP. Then, amidst the backdrop of the global Covid-19 pandemic the band found themselves in lockdown unable to record, or rehearse together. And like the rest of the world we found ourselves in isolation, trying to make sense of the situation. With the sudden restrictions hampering our creativity, there started a challenge amongst the band…to record a track ‘together’ in isolation. This challenge grew and mutated into seven songs written, recorded, mixed and mastered from the Start of Lockdown on March 16th, 2020. Completed on the 10th May 2020, as the UK started to make its’ first tentative steps out of lockdown.

So…in a strange twist of fate, Sons of Mu release their second LP “Lockdown”, before the first one is even finished. An LP which was written and recorded with no physical interaction between the band, working in our separate homes, sharing recordings. The songs express the thoughts & frustrations, the sadness and happiness we experienced during the Covid-19 Lockdown. Written to be dedicated to all musicians, venues & everybody who relies on the creative industries for their livelihoods.

With every song that was released came the message…

“Stay Safe and look out for each other”.
